Maalik was featured in Your Date Project - which is about reflecting on life, aging and birthdays. Each episode is 2-4 minutes long, and each features different guests who speak about his/her life, dwelling on the good, the regrets and hopes for the future—the kinds of questions one asks around birthdays. Each person portrays his/her life through drawings on a white board. These images are later recreated by artists from around the world, and will be turned into a physical calendar.
Maalik spoke on his experience as an Afro-Latino in Black Beyond America - a docu series that speaks to people from throughout the African Diaspora. In this video, we speak to a handful of Afro Latinos. Whether talking about their upbringing, how non black Latinos address them or the controversy surrounding Amara La Negra, they remind us that being Black and Latino is neither rare nor mutually exclusive.
